The Dark Knight

July 24th, 2008 · No Comments

Wow! I recently saw the new Batman film ‘Dark Knight’ and was completely blown away! You can IMDB’s full movie synopsis here. If you haven’t seen it yet, GO SEE IT! It’s a great movie, better than the first one, and is definitely worth the money to see it in theater. You might not want to bring the kiddies, though. This film is very dark and doesn’t have a happy ending!

About Me

July 24th, 2008 · No Comments

My name is Jim Daniels and I am a Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy. I started this blog in hopes that, one day, it will be a place where people from all over can come together and freely discuss their opinions, fears and joys…their stories, without the fear of reprisal or attack. In our modern world I know that that may be a tall order but I do believe it is possible, especially in this comparatively controlled format. How many stories does each person have to tell? They are endless. How many collective years of wisdom and experience and inexperience exist in the world, in your country, in your town or city? They are countless. If even the smallest fraction of these moments and experiences are written here on these pages then it has not been a wasted effort and I look forward to reading from you.

This site is currently published using WordPress, which is an awesome software project. One day I’m hoping to develop a custom site, but we’ve all got to start somewhere, right?

So peruse around. Post some threads and read some threads. If you have any questions or issues, email me and I’ll do my best to take care of it. I’ll see you in the ether.

Cheers!

“The Ruins” Movie

July 19th, 2008 · No Comments

Hi! I just watched “The Ruins” movie and wanted to give a brief synopsis and my thoughts on the movie.  The film is about four college-aged kids who are on summer vacation somewhere in Mexico (presumably Cancun). There, they meet a guy who tells them about a Mayan temple ruin that has recently been found and is currently under excavation. The group decides to check it out.

Once they arrive they are confronted by men who are carrying a gun and bows and arrows. The men begin to shout at the group, pointing their weapons at them, telling them, presumably, to leave the ruins area. One of the group members (four students plus two others that they met the night before) gets shot in the chest by an arrow, and then in the head by the gun. The group then runs to the top of the temple and the men do not follow.

Before long, there are 50-60 people surrounding the base of the temple. They will not let the group leave. They are, it seems, in some sort of quarantine. For lack of wanting to give away the plot of the movie from here, I’ll hit the highlights:

  • The rest of the film takes place almost exclusively on top of or inside the temple.
  • The ruins are covered with a vine-like plant that makes the Venus Fly Trap look like a daisy.
  • Many people die very gruesome deaths.
  • The plot turns are twisted, if not a little predictable.

The alternate ending is, IMO, much  better than the theatrical release. I had heard that this movie sucked, but I actually thought it was worth the $4.00 to rent it. If you’re in need of a little enteratinment at home this is definitely a movie that will pass your time pleasurably.

Site Update

July 17th, 2008 · No Comments

Hi all. I just wanted to drop an update for the site. I upgraded the site’s blog software and also installed the following features:

Add to Any: Lets you share, save, and bookmark your posts and pages using any service.

User Photo: Let you associate a photo with your account using your “Your Profile” page.

Yet Another Photo Blog: Allows you to use your blog as a photo blog.

I hope you enjoy these new features. If you have any issues or see any bugs please let know so that I can fix them. I’ve perused them and they seem to work well.

In the meantime, if you have anything you have a discussion you’d like to start or just want to vent a little, go to your dashboard and start your post! Talk to you later!
